Check credentials when choosing a sustainable printer, expert says
The managing director of one print equipment manufacturer has urged businesses to consider factors such as accreditation when they are picking a sustainable printing firm.
Businesses need to consider a broad range of factors when choosing a sustainable printing firm, one expert has suggested.
Writing for CIO, managing director of Kyocera Mita Australia and New Zealand David Finn explained picking a printing vendor "can be baffling", so firms need to "look carefully at the environmental credentials" of their options before making a decision.
Issues such as whether the sustainable printer has ISO 14001 accreditation should be taken into account, he remarked, noting that as this can be hard work to attain and keep, it is a sign the organisation is committed to "developing an environmental policy and considering the environmental consequences of all its processes".
Businesses may also want to look at other endorsements, such as whether the printing firm is registered with the Forest Stewardship Council and uses paper sourced from sustainable, eco-friendly locations.
President of WhatTheyThink.com Randy Davidson recently noted many enterprises have the misconception that adopting an eco-friendly approach to printing can be expensive.
