Interns 'should ask for business cards'

Interns should ask the company they are working for to provide them with some business cards, one expert has suggested.

Those currently on company internships should ask their employer for some business cards so they can network at industry events.

This is according to chairman of executive development firm Dale Carnrgie Training Peter Handal, speaking to Annie Fisher of CNN Money, who explained some enterprises have a policy of providing such items - usually with the title 'intern' - to those who hold such a position.

Mr Handal noted having a plentiful supply of cards is a good way to ask for someone else's details while at a conference or tradeshow, adding if companies do not usually supply interns with business cards, it is worth enquiring as to why.

"It certainly can't hurt to ask, since among other things, it's a sign that you are proud to be working there" said Mr Handal.

Owners of public relations organisations who are looking to secure new customers should also secure the services of a business card printer.

According to Richard Ellis of the Public Relations Consultants Association, the cards should be carried at all times.
