UK printers 'benefiting' from public sector spending cuts

Printing companies that supply the public sector are seeing increased enquiries as a result of the spending cuts recently announced by the government.

The government spending cuts recently announced in the emergency Budget has resulted in UK printing companies seeing an increase in price enquiries from the public sector.

PrintWeek reports a number of firms supplying flyer and brochure printing services have received queries from bodies that are looking to reduce their expenditure.

"They're telling us 'these are the savings we've got to make, now how can you help us to achieve that?'," remarked Iain Black of Paragon Group.

And Adam Baxter of BurrBaxter told the news source the austerity measures have prompted public sector bodies to get in touch regarding their printing services - some of which he had been trying to get hold of "for several years".

He explained many departments are looking to make cost savings when purchasing printed stationery and other items, with failure to do potentially resulting in redundancies in order to bring down outgoings.

The spending cuts were announced by chancellor George Osborne in June, as the coalition government moved to reduce the UK's budget deficit.
